on the fifth holy night in the heart of December
you arrived.
This mysterious name tied to a jewel box
wrapped in a thin layer of paper
was tangible.
It bled through the walls of the tropical winter
crept through the halls of my capillaries
and the only two words that I knew, they felt
breezy and cold, they felt
ancient and old, they felt
open like space, gray like blue.
And the ancient and old felt like new.
Felt the two words, felt them together at once
as the first image came to my ears
There's a crater somewhere in the universe
on a satellite not far from here
filled with waterdrops joined with hydrogen bonds
and filled with my molecules too.
Suspended on salt, each atom is floating
and hanging down, up from the earth
Even when the last track has sounded and blew
the last gray'n of glass to the bottom
the circle continues, the record's a' loop
The anchor remains dropped in two
oceans of ground and of moon
Behind a curtain that fell too soon
but is too thin to stay without darns
And its STAY falls away in the storm
Twenty years, you kept it raging on.
From the desert to the ocean on the moon
to a once-whispered "God bless you"
to the end of the world, from a December gift
I'll continue to sink deep into.

Far off in this endlessly continuing white earth...
My voice that's crying out can no longer reach anyone
